FARM NAME HISTORY
The name “Dei Pretoriani di Cures”
has not been assigned to my Rottweiler Farm by chance. On this
subject I give you briefly, in succession some historical- geografical
notices about.
Cures
is the name of a very ancient Sabine city, where, according to
the legend dominated Titus Tatius,
at once rival and then allied of Romulus. The legend tells that
Romulus once created the city tried to solve the problem to repeople
it; he got together the shepherds of the surrounding areas, but
he was lacking in women. So he thought to organize a party, whom
he invited the Sabines with wives
and doughters. While the feast took place singing and dancing,
at an agreed signal the young roman kidnapped the sabine women,
and armed with daggers put the men to flight.
Long after, the letters returned commanded from Titus
Tatius, belonging to the Curiti sabine tribe, king
of Cures city, with the intention of setting free their
women and of taking revenge for the suffered affront. A
girl called Tarpeia opened them the gates of the town,
but paid immediately for her act with an atrocious death, in fact
she was run over by the Roman's shields. Then the future generations
assigned her name, to the Tarpeia rock from which will become
usage to throw the sentenced to death.
Stoled in Rome, the Sabines hurled
themself at the enemy warriors; but as soon as the battle started,
women intervened to obtain the armistice; in fact many girls became
already fond of the roman husbands and she could not tolerate
to see that bloody battle, in which were involved their fathers
and their husbands.
So the event came to a pacific end: Romulus
and Titus Tatius reigned together over the city, Sabines and Romans
merged in a single people.
From the name of the tribe of TitusTatius, the one of the Curiti,
then derived for the romans the common noun of Quiriti.
This legend reveal that the origin of Rome depends on the presence
of Sabines, that in part populated already that area and that
a lot of Sabines were the first inhabitantsof Rome. That
proved why on Romulus death were elected the sabine King Numa,
sometime ago this should be sure not happened, if Sabines did
not constitute the large part of the people. To confirm more that
is highlighted before, we have to underline that the Ancus Marcius
King were Sabine too.
The
archeological site, where nowadays has been located Cures,
is situated on the municipal district of Fara Sabina, province
of Rieti, on the outlying administrative division of Passo Corese,
that is named just after Cures itself, on the hills set on Arci
Street, a little more to the north of Passo Corese. Here, many
excavation compaigns have brought to light contructions relative
to facilities of a city of the roman age.
The Praetorian Guard was founded
for the first time from Augustus (Octavian) in 27 A.D. in imitation
to private guards of the late Republic Generals. Pratorians were
commanded from the Prefectus Praetorio of the equestrian order.
Usually become part of this force, only lance corporals and gallant
soldiers or Officers but always coming from the Italy Province.
The Praetorian Legion from simple
Guard of the Emperor became the Guard of Rome too, with the Cohortes
Urbanae and during the last years of the Empire a “very
persuasive political instrument”. The Legion were 5000 men
strong subdivided into 10 cohorts with 500 men everyone.
After this due preliminary remark,
I think that I can declare without a shadow of a doubt that Rottweiler
dogs represent the Praetorians our age, due to their specific
and pecular characteristic are induced by nature to place in the
centre of their existence, the figure of the owner and man leader
of the pack. They pressinger than other breed of dogs, become
with morbidity attached to the family members that they love over
every limi,t and defend from every danger that could menace them.
My Farm stand on a land situated
in Arci Street near Passo Corese, just there centuries ago it
happened occurences that gived rise to Rome that then dominated
the entire world for over a millenium.
I have much thought about the exceptional gifts
of dignity, proud and fidelity that the Rottweiler breed incarnates,
and in consideration of the luck and the honour of breathing every
moment the crandle's air of one of the most old story of mankind,
I consider to call rightfully the Rottweiler dogs belonging to
my Farm “Pretoriani di Cures”.
